42-year-old Jon Garner was shot in Maypearl, Texas, on January 2, 2018—his 18th wedding anniversary. 55-year-old Sandra Garner said a masked intruder shot her husband and stole $18,000 in cash.
Investigators found the murder weapon, a .38 pistol, under the front seat of Sandra Garner's Mustang. Days before the murder, someone searched for “how can I kill someone as they sleep” on her iPad.
Jon Garner reportedly owned 49 pistols and 12 rifles. He had given Sandra the gun that killed him.
Police failed to bag Sandra's hands, so the defense claimed the gunshot residue found on her was from CPR. The crime scene was not secure, the car wasn’t fingerprinted, and the crime scene photos were lost.
Defense attorney Tom Pappas says Sandra's son, Wes Miller, needed money and mistakenly believed he was in Jon's will. But wouldn’t Sandra have recognized the alleged intruder as her own son?
The jury found Sandra Garner not guilty.
