On May 29, 2016, yoga instructor Alexandria Duval (formerly Alison Dadow) was driving a Ford Explorer with her identical twin sister, Anastasia Duval (formerly Ann Dadow), on the narrow, winding Hāna Highway in Maui, Hawaii.
• The Crash: Witnesses saw the
sisters violently fighting and pulling each other's hair inside the
moving SUV. The vehicle accelerated, swerved sharply, broke through a
rock wall, and plunged 200 feet over a sea cliff.
• The Victim: Anastasia Duval was
in the passenger seat and died at the scene. Alexandria survived with
injuries.
• Legal Proceedings:
• Alexandria was initially
charged with second-degree murder, but a judge dropped the charges in
June 2016 due to a lack of probable cause.
• She was later re-indicted by a
grand jury after being arrested in New York.
• In February 2018, following a
bench trial, Second Circuit Judge Peter Cahill found Alexandria not
guilty, ruling that the crash was a tragic accident caused by
Anastasia pulling the driver's hair and making her lose control of
the vehicle.
