THE STRONG ETHICS OF ALCOA

Alcoa has a strong ethics and compliance program because their
program includes: (1) A "Guide to Business Conduct, (2)
They give global business conduct training to all employees, (3) They have
a global ethics communications hotline, (4) They focus on violations of
business conduct, insider trading, and anti-corruption policies by using the
Business Conduct and Conflict of Interest Survey Certification, (5) They
investigate fraud and other non-compliances, (6) They have an effective
non-compliance risk assessment, (7) They have a records retention
program, and, (8) They are a resource for businesses in compliance and
ethical matters.
They believe in ethical decision making that goes beyond legal and
illegal choices and becomes critical when having to choose if it is legally
acceptable. Their program of compliance, ethics and behaviors involves
training, communications, investigations, records management, and
reporting mechanisms. The training is designed to build awareness and skill
in leaders of the employees they supervise in order for them to become
aware of the ethical actions on the workplace through their actions and
comments.
Alcoa's ethics and compliance line is set up for employees to report
their concerns and issues to their supervisors, work teams, and other
professionals by installing a channel for communications problem solving.
When employees need to report a concern or issue, they report the time and
place, the individual’s involved and any other information that might be
useful. The program is overseen by the Compliance Advisory Committee
which is made up of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial
Officer, the Global Director of Compliance, and the Director of Ethics,
Compliance and Advisory Services.
Alcoa has accountability and actions in order to protect its employees,
customer, suppliers, and the company from any improper conduct. They do
this by reporting concerns, resulting actions, doing the right thing, doing the
right thing in the right way, by understanding correct work behavior,
respecting people and the law in the workplace, and questioning and/or
reporting activities that appear to violate Alcoa's values.
Some of Alcoa's values are: the integrity to be honest, open and
trustworthy when dealing with its customers, suppliers, coworkers,
shareholders and the community that has a direct impact. Environment
health and safety promotes and protects individuals' well-being from the
environment. They support the customer's success by their values through
innovative product and service solutions. They pursue excellence in
everything they do. The people embraces change, new ideas and respect for
the individual and the opportunity to succeed. The company earns a
profitability that allows profitable growth and superior shareholder value.
Everyone is accountable for their actions and values.
The management of Alcoa must show committment through their
actions and an environment where compliance is the norm. They must make
sure all employees comply with Alcoa's values and principals. They must
make sure that health and safety is maintained in each of the plants, offices
and work sites. Alcoa shows respect and equal employment opportunity
regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, disability,
veteran status, sexual orientation, or other factor, and applies to all of the
following: hiring, assigning, promoting and dismissing employees. They
should also allow for growth and development, recognize successes,
selecting employees for training programs, and determining wages and
benefits.
Alcoa also does not tolerate any form of harassment, including the
following: Jokes, threats, insults and unwelcome actions about a person's
race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, ancestry, sexual
orientation, citizenship, disability, veteran status, social or economic status,
or educational background. The company will also not tolerate unwelcome
sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, unwelcome physical or verbal
conducts of a sexual nature, or displaying objects of a sexual nature. Alcoa
will also not tolerate any verbal or physical conduct that disrupts a person's
work performance or creates a hostile work environment.
The Board of Directors delegates a CEO and through him, they
manage the day-to-day affairs of the company. CEO and management are
responsible for the corporation in an effective manner.
Alcoa has taken measures to make sure all employees and top
executives follow the company policies and they have published a guide to
teach and train new employees to the company policies and the actions that
they won't tolerate such as sexual harrassment on the job and what will
happen if it does happen. Alcoa is an equal opportunity employer who does
not discriminate when it comes to hiring, assigning, promoting or
dismissing employees.
